ARCHITECTURE
INSTITUTE OF PERSONAL EXPRESSION
Trieste, Italy
Situated on a disused WWI bunker, the Institute is the ‘seed’ designed to release the creative spirit of Trieste. The design is structured by walls which run the length of the design, from a controlled order before giving way to chaos and anarchy – reflecting the character of Trieste, as well as the use of the design.
Progressing from a fine art school ordered using Adorno’s Aesthetic Theory, the scheme breaks down, becoming uncontrolled and open to informal inhabitation. ‘Spaces’ are created using the structure of the organising walls, these themselves reflecting the balance of chaos and control.
